A Game of Numbers…

So before I jump into today’s topic I’ll quickly redirect you to the proposed Marauder changes thread. I’m happy that Mythic is finally giving this class attention as in the many months I have been playing WAR they have been up there in the neglected-boat with Engis, SWs, and Magi. As someone with a SW as a main, 1.3.6 left me utterly disappointed with the carpet-bomb RDPS changes, but that’s another issue. One thing I will say is how flabbergasted I am with all the destro asking for Marauders to get pounce. This is seriously a -palm face- moment. Of all the nice toys the Marauder already has (aoe KD, AP Drain, a pull that doesnt aggro guards and cant be parried like the gay-ass WL pet) and is further getting (positional armor pen, guaranteed crit under-50-finisher, a +50% damage tactic) I am genuinely worried that this class is getting too much TLC. The TTK in WAR is already rather absurd and Mythic introduced the defensive Sovereign sets to offset this. Apparently they didn’t realize that not everyone wears Sovereign or has been lucky enough to beat the RR23s in winning some. If Mythic was a doctor and you came in with a cut on your finger, they would recommend amputating the whole arm. Instead of using the scalpel, they use the ax. Ah well, /end rant. On to the post!

I am not a math person at all, yet today I bring to the table numbers. I’m talking purple numbers. Yes, today I would like to address the change to increase the renown cap to 100. Now I’ve already addressed these changes in a prior thread before they were announced; I know, I’m an oracle. You can read that to see my feelings in regards to this change and I wont try to repeat what I’ve already said because this post is simply about numbers, however I must quote myself just once from that post.

This ‘expansion’ in my mind does not smell financially wise decision at all. In fact all this expansion does smell like is financial incentive without any thought. “Gee how do we get player to play longer without actually giving them new places to fight or new things to do… I know raise the cap!” Lets face it people who are already RR80 and still play are not playing for the gain, theyre playing to kill. People who unsubbed probably left because there was nothing new, the renown was a grind, or the game wasn’t to their fancy (bugs, PvP orientation, etc).

Ok that being said, Mythic is fishing for money, good for them. On to the numbers!

CAUTION: This post may cause tears! I am not responsible for any pets that ‘go missing’ in your oven.

Now I really wish I had a site with the number of Renown total in Warhammer and how much each level is, because when you look at a RR80 on Warhammeronline.com they are listed as having 104,976,000 renown which seems odd to me. I’m not one to use a calculator, but today can go down in history, and if you divide that by 80 renown ranks that means each renown rank would be 1,312,200. Now I’ve made enough level 1 toons to reserve a cool name to know that renown rank 1 is not 1,312,200 points. I think someone at Mythic added a magical 0 to that number and the actual sum of renown points is 10,497,600 renown, but I’m no astrophysicist so someone can correct me.

So for the sake of today’s argument we shall assume two things

  1. The total renown from 1-80 is 10,497,600 or simplifying 10.5 million and
  2. Renown ranks 1-68 are equal to half the total renown in the game and renown ranks 69-80 are equal to half the total renown in the game; ergo RR69-80 is about 5 million renown.

Now quickly jumping on Warhammeronline.com and looking up some peoples numbers I have acquired the following data:

  • RR57 requires 110,610 points
  • RR59 requires 123,960 points
  • RR 60 requires 133,280 points
  • RR 61 requires 142,440 points
  • RR62 requires 152,480 points
  • RR 63 requires 163,460 points
  • RR 66 requires 202,690 points
  • RR 70 requires 271,970 points
  • RR 73 requires 339,030 points
  • RR 74 requires 364,650 points
  • RR 75 requires 392,020 points
  • RR 76 requires 421,230 points
  • RR 79 requires 520,650 points
  • RR 80 requires 560,xxx points

Ok so given this ‘raw data’ we can seem some of the incremental jumps between renown ranks: about 6k renown in between ranks in the RR50s; about 9-12k renown in between ranks in the RR60s; and in the RR70s it starts jumping by 20-40k in between ranks. Fantastic! We can see a trend! If you’ve seen enough and can slowly taste the bile building up, you are welcome to stop now. If you’d like to vomit on your keyboard keep reading!

Now assuming Mythic is not full of sadistic fascists and the rate of increase does not grow exponentially, I’ve penciled in a rather generous estimate of how much the remaining 20 renown ranks will cost you in blood, sweat, and tears.

  • RR 81 requires 600,000 points – increase of 40k
  • RR 82 requires 650,000 points – increase of 50k
  • RR 83 requires 700,000 points – increase of 50k
  • RR 84 requires 750,000 points – increase of 50k
  • RR 85 requires 800,000 points – increase in 50k
  • RR 86 requires 865,000 points – increase in 65k
  • RR 87 requires 930,000 points – increase in 65k
  • RR 88 requires 995,000 points – increase in 65k
  • RR 89 requires 1,060,000 points – increase in 65k
  • RR 90 requires 1,130,000 points – increase in 70k
  • RR 91 requires 1,200,000 points – increase in 70k
  • RR 92 requires 1,280,000 points – increase in 80k
  • RR 93 requires 1,360,000 points – increase in 80k
  • RR 94 requires 1,440,000 points – increase in 80k
  • RR 95 requires 1,520,000 points – increase in 80k
  • RR 96 requires 1,600,000 points – increase in 80k
  • RR 97 requires 1,700,000 points – increase in 100k
  • RR 98 requires 1,800,000 points – increase in 100k
  • RR 99 requires 1,900,000 points – increase in 100k
  • RR 100 requires 2,000,000 points – increase in 100k

Hitting 2million points for RR100 was actually coincidental but I’m glad it was a nice even number. Ok given my guesstimation we go further yet!

  • RR 0-80 = 10,500,000 points
  • RR 0-68 = RR 69-80
  • RR 0-100 = 34,320,000 points
  • RR 81-90 = 8,480,000 points = RR 0-77
  • RR 91-100 = 15,800,000 points = RR 0-88

And you thought RR 70-80 was a grind -_- How dearly I hope I am wrong. There better be one damn big carrot at the end of this stick.

Dunno, the bar does move slowly at 75, but it’s not nearly the grind people make it out to be. I’m not in such a hurry and I’m making good progress. Especially with the new AAO and double aegis. It’s probably easier to get to 80 now than ever before.

You actually raised my spirits with the post 76 renown required. I thought it was a bigger step, but if it’s only 2mil from 76 to 80, pfft, I can do that in my sleep. 😛
