At the Gates ~ Karaz-a-Karak
The steady beat of drums echoes off the once peaceful gates of Karaz-a-Karak. The Bloody Sun Boyz have arrived leading a swarm that covers the valley floor in a deathly shade of green. Under the strain of the living tide that bears down upon them, the massive gates of Karaz-a-Karak groan echoing the sentiment of the defenders inside. The Bloody Sun Boyz hope to write a new chapter in the Great Book of Grudges, a chapter starting with the slaughter of Karaz-a-Karak.
The invading armies of Destruction enter Karaz-a-Karak in the Hall of Kings on the main-floor. The galleries flanking the hall are lined with organ guns and cannons which have already dealt a savage blow to the initial waves of Greenskin – now it is time for you to maneuver the debris and piles of corpses to fight your way to the galleries and clear them of their defenders. From the Hall of Kings three massive doors lead into adjoining chambers. To the right the doorway opens unto the Valaya Plaza – the mercantile heart of Karaz-a-Karak with its key landmarks of the Oath Hall and the Oath Vault. However, more importantly for the defenders is the Brewmaster’s Brewery where the rangers have barricaded themselves under the command of the famed Joseph Bugman.
The doorway directly across the main gate in the Hall of Kings leads to the Grand Station of Karaz-a-Karak – the artery connecting the seat of the Dwarven High King to the other kingdoms and mining outposts. Defended by Hammerers, traditional guardians of the rail, and siege cannons, the Grand Station is of vital importance for the defense of Karaz-a-Karak for as long as it stands dwarves from the other kingdoms can rally to defend their High King. Already the first reinforcements have arrived, the defenders of Karak Hirn, led by their king, Alrik Ranulfsson.
The final doorway leading from the Hall of Kings is the doorway to the left leading into the Engineer’s Guild. Here new prototypes of weapons are being designed and assembled, and despite their lack of wit, the Greenskins know just how deadly the Dwarven siege weapons can be, so their destruction is crucial. A hall of molten liquid pouring from spouts along the walls filling the air with steam. It is here that Burlock Damminson of the Engineer Guild of Zhukbar lead the Engineers of Karak Ankor in their valiant defense.
Below the main level of Karaz-a-Karak the invading armies descend into the belly of the capital, and in many ways the heart of Karaz-a-Karak – the Lower Reaches. To the west under the Engineer’s Guild the molten liquid pours down into the Temple of Grungi. Small streams of the steaming liquid flow into the center of the chamber and descend in a cascade into a dark pit – suspended over this pit is a platform with the great anvil of Karaz-a-Karak. Kragg the Grim, the oldest living Rune Lord, leads the rune priests in the defense of the Anvil of Doom. Centrally located in the Lower Reaches is Mining District where the Miner’s Guild commands. Leading the miners in the defense of the Miner’s Guild is Snorri ‘Gravelbottom’ Stonehand. East of the Miner’s Guild is the Mine Junction, where the rotating rail platform, a testament of Dwarven ingenuity, allows eight paths to cross opening the vast riches under Karaz-a-Karak to its miners. In this dark hour of invasion the mine shafts have been abandoned and now the Ironbreakers stand vigil over the Mine Junction, led by Sigrum Slendershank.
In the level above the main level the invaders reach the Grand Floor – two massive galleries lining the Hall of Kings below spanned by a grand bridge known as the Sky Bridge. Above the Grand Floor one can hear the echo of the cannons as they fire at the invading armies and the hum of the gyrocopters as they fly sorties over the Greenskin. To the right along the Grand Floor is the eerily empty Hall of Grudges – empty save for three unsavory fellows fit to slay an entire greenskin host on their own. Defending the famed Book of Grudges are two famed slayers – Gotrek Gurnisson and Snorri Nosebiter, and behind them stands the King of Karak Kadrin – Ungrim Ironfist. Dominating the Sky Bridge of Kings leading to the throne of the dwarves are a band of Oathbearers sworn to fight to the last drop of blood in their body; leading them is the famed storyteller (who has much to boast for and ample opportunity to prove his tales true) Durgrim Redmane.
Finally across the Sky Bridge of Kings on the left side of the Grand Floor lay the Hall of A Thousand Pillars – the throne room of High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer. Guarded by four thronebearers, Thorgrim is the head of the Dwarven kingdom. Though he seems lightly defended, a strange figure looms in the shadows ready to protect their king.
